How hard is it today?
Today's difficulty: Medium (2 out of 5)
A fair, middle-of-the-road puzzle. Read your colors carefully and it should come together.
I rate each puzzle by how common its letters are, whether any repeat, and how many lookalike words it has, compared with every word in the original Wordle answer list. The rating never names a letter.
Tip of the day
Stuck on guess five? Walk away for a few minutes. You have until midnight, and fresh eyes help. Read the guide
After you reveal the answer
Open Show the answer and this box fills in with how my STAIR opener would have done, why today earned its rating, where the word comes from, and a tip to match. Nothing here gives the word away until you do.

How Wordle works
You get six tries to guess a hidden five-letter word. Each guess must be a real word. After you enter one, every tile changes color to tell you how close you were:
- Green means the letter is in the word and in the right spot.
- Yellow means the letter is in the word, but somewhere else.
- Gray means the letter is not in the word at all.
Everyone gets the same word on the same day, which is half the fun. There is one puzzle per day, so if today's has you stuck, a small nudge can save your streak without taking away the satisfaction of solving it yourself.
How to use these hints
The hints are built to be opened one at a time, from the lightest touch to the biggest help. Open one, make another guess, and only come back for more if you need it.
Hint 1: the first letter
Knowing how the word begins narrows things a lot without giving the game away. Try listing a few five-letter words that start with that letter and fit the colors you already have.
Hint 2: vowels and repeated letters
This tells you how many of A, E, I, O and U are in the word, and whether any letter shows up twice. Double letters are one of the most common reasons people get stuck, so this one can be a real eye-opener.
Hint 3: a definition with the word blanked out
A short dictionary meaning, with the answer hidden behind blanks. It is the strongest clue here. If a word has no usable definition, you get its last letter instead.
Still stuck after all three? The green button reveals the full answer. No judgment. Everyone has those days.
When does a new puzzle arrive?
This page updates at midnight US Eastern time (12:01 AM ET), so the hints above always match the puzzle for the current date in New York. The official game switches to a new word at midnight wherever you are, so depending on your time zone your game may change a little earlier or later than this page. The date and puzzle number at the top always tell you which Wordle these hints are for.
Frequently asked questions
What time does the Wordle hint page update?
This page refreshes at 12:01 AM US Eastern time every night, right after the puzzle date changes in New York. The New York Times releases each new Wordle at midnight in your own local time zone, so if you live west of Eastern time, this page may move to the next puzzle a little before your game does. Check the date and puzzle number at the top, and use the archive if you need yesterday's hints.
Will the hints spoil the answer?
Not unless you want them to. Every hint and the answer stay hidden until you tap on them, and they go from gentle to strong, so you can stop as soon as you have enough to go on.
Which hint should I open first?
Start with Hint 1, the first letter. If you are still stuck after another guess or two, open Hint 2 for the vowel count and any repeated letters. Save Hint 3, a short dictionary definition with the word blanked out, for when you really need it.
Where does the definition in Hint 3 come from?
It is pulled automatically from Wiktionary, the free dictionary, and the answer is replaced with blanks. Some words have several meanings, so the one shown may not be the sense you were thinking of.
Can I get hints for an earlier Wordle?
Yes. The archive keeps the hint pages for roughly the last two months, listed by date and puzzle number.
Is this the official Wordle site?
No. This is an unofficial fan site and is not affiliated with The New York Times. To play the puzzle itself, visit the official Wordle game from The New York Times.
